Our Story

Built on Transparency

Two decades in IT, and one clear conclusion: businesses need a partner that does cyber security properly.

Backed by over 20 Years of Expertise

Andrew owned and operated two successful MSPs between 2002 and 2019, growing his first to more than 20 staff.

He saw the same pattern again and again: IT providers stretched thin, and security sidelined until a client was breached.

Shield exists to fix that. He runs it on a clear rule: tell clients the truth, even when it is uncomfortable.

Where It Started

Andrew grew up in an entrepreneurial household. His mother ran three businesses, and his father, an accountant, kept a close eye on every pound. Both habits stayed with him.

School was never where he shone, but business and science came naturally. Curious about computers and the newly emerging internet, he studied advanced IT at college and, at 18, chose a job as an IT engineer over university.

Fifteen Years Building an IT Business

After two IT companies and a redundancy at 20, Andrew decided to build his own. Around 2002, with backing from a local business owner who believed in him, he launched one of the few IT companies operating in the South West at the time.

Over the next 15 years he grew it to more than 20 staff. When a later business partnership did not turn out as it had been presented, he chose to step away. It was a hard lesson, and it is why Shield is run on openness and transparency from the first conversation.

He then spent five years in senior roles at other IT firms, watching the industry change from the inside.

Why Shield Exists

From the inside, the pattern was clear. IT engineers were overloaded with tickets, providers were stretched across websites, telephony and everything in between, and security alerts were being missed. Cyber security was being sold as an add-on after something had already gone wrong.

In January 2025 Andrew launched Shield to do the opposite: one specialism, built lean and deliberately, working alongside IT providers rather than competing with them, so every business can have advanced cyber security it understands.

This time, it is a business built on his own terms.
